Sidra Hospital Qatar Job Description

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Identifies and maintains up-to-date best practice guidelines and develops algorithms for the clinical identification and management of children at risk/
  • Clinically Identifies examines and/or otherwise evaluates and reports to the mandated authorities children at risk.
  • Discusses and reaches agreement with the relevant stakeholders regarding the best decisions pertaining to the care and disposition of children at risk.
  • Decisions taken during the course can have an impact on child and family and possible legal consequences for professionals involved.

1- Clinical role

  • Develops appropriate management plans for clinical and psychological support for child protection with all relevant to all responsible sectors for each child suspected of having been maltreated.
  • Supports and advises other professionals on the clinical and psychological management of all forms of child maltreatment, including relevant legal frameworks and required documentation
  • Assesses and evaluates clinical and psychological evidence, write reports and present information to child protection authorities.
  • Attends legal proceedings as necessary to provide relevant evidence and information on child protection cases.
  • Provides advice and signposting to other professionals regarding key research and advances in clinical practice, legal processes and current policy documents.

2- Leadership and advisory role

  • Advises and has input into the development of best practice guidelines and policies for all health staff and ensures that performance against these is appropriately monitored and audited.
  • Provides clinical and psychological advice about child protection risks (including any deficiencies or vulnerable areas in service provision) within Sidra and organizations across the health community via a health representatives group.
  • Provides clinical and psychological advice (direct and indirect) to colleagues on the assessment, treatment, and clinical services for all forms of child maltreatment including but not limited to FII, child sexual abuse, honor-based violence, trafficking and detention within the Prevention strategy.

3- Co-ordination and communication

  • Works with other designated professionals to agree on team responsibilities and individual roles.
  • Liaises with, advises, and supports named professionals within Sidra and across the health community.
  • Leads and supports the activities of local health advisory groups for child protection.
  • Liaises with the Ministry of Interior/ local authority on child protection.

4- Governance: policies and procedures

  • Works with health care departments within Sidra and across the health community to ensure that appropriate policies, procedures, training, and audit are in place and that these are consistent with the policies of Sidra and Ministry of Interior in Qatar.
  • Assists with and facilitates the development of quality assurance systems within Sidra and across the health community.

5- Training responsibilities

  • Advises and collaborates with other organizations on child protection training needs and the delivery of training for all health staff within Sidra and organizations across the health community.
  • Plays an active part in the planning and delivery of inter-agency training.

6- Inter-agency responsibilities

  • Collaborates with other stakeholders to ensure appropriate care to children and families where child risk is suspected.
  • Provides child protection health advice on policy and individual cases to statutory and voluntary agencies, including the Police, Children’s Social Care and Qatar Foundation.

7- Monitoring

  • Ensures services delivered by Sidra personnel are consistent with stated guidelines.
  • Provides advice to all organizations across the health community including Sidra on the implementation of an effective system of child protection audit, training, and supervision.
  • Provides advice on clinical governance and standards to named professionals.

8- Supervision

  • Supervises (directly and indirectly) Sidra personnel to ensure the best care is being provided.
  • Provides clinical and psychological advice on child protection case-focused support and supervision for health staff at all levels within organizations across the health community including Sidra that delivers health services.
  • Produces a supervision strategy for the health community which provides direction and options for supervision models, as appropriate to need.

9- Personal development

  • Meets the organization’s and the professional body’s requirements for training attendance.
  • Attends relevant regional and national continuing professional development activities in order to maintain skills.
  • Receives regular child protection supervision/peer review and undertake reflective practice from outside the employing organization.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS :

Clinical

  • Provides in-patient and out-patient occupational therapy care as appropriate to patient demand and specialty clinical skills.
  • Provides therapy care that is patient centered including setting meaningful goals for independence in daily activities.

  • Responsible for maintaining a Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners Continuing Professional Development Profile for licensure.
  • Responsible for maintaining up to date mandatory training requirements (eg. BLS, fire safety etc.)
  • Participates in service activities that contribute to excellence in outcomes, a positive patient experience and a healthy professional environment.
  • Contributes to the achievement of clinical quality outcome indicators and patient satisfaction.
  • Leads service based Performance Improvement activities and organizational committees as assigned.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Under the supervision of the Child Life Services Supervisor makes decisions related to the plans of care for women/children.
  • Makes day to day decisions regarding assessment and interventions that impact patients and families and collaborating staff/colleagues.
  • Makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding decisions that have a unit/service impact.

Essential Function 1 – 35%

Assesses, meaningfully interacts with, and provides a safe, therapeutic and healing environment for children and families:

  • Implements Child Life services using evidence-based practice.
  • Uses developmentally appropriate play as a primary tool in assessing and meeting psychosocial needs.
  • Utilizes therapeutic play and other creative modalities to meet individual development and emotional needs.

**Therapeutic play refers to specialized activities that are developmentally supportive and facilitate the emotional well-being of a pediatric patient. Therapeutic play typically consists of at least one of the following types of activities: 1) the encouragement of emotional expression (e.g. reenactment of experiences through healthcare play), 2) instructional play to educate children about medical experiences, and 3) physiologically enhancing play (e.g. blowing bubbles to improve breathing).

  • Paces interactions in response to a child’s and family’s lead.
  • Applies formal and informal assessment techniques to assess psychosocial needs, and continue cyclical process of assessment, plan, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Supports the central role of the family, valuing strengths and needs; works to maintain family units.
  • Provides support to siblings, parents, and other friends and family members in order to improve understanding of the patient’s situation and familiarization with the health care environment.
  • Demonstrates respect for diversity.
  • Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships.
  • Creates an environment where play is valued and encouraged.
  • Plans and implements varied developmentally supportive activities.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills in the process of supporting children and families.
  • Provides input about facility design and provisions to promote orientation, comfort, healing, security, and normalization.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary care conferences, psychosocial rounds, and nursing report.
  • Maintains good interpersonal relations with patients, families, visitors, and other employees, following
  • departmental and hospital-wide philosophy.
  • Communicates concisely with others, integrating theory and evidence-based practice to obtain and share pertinent information.
  • Prepares and maintains a safe, inviting, and developmentally responsive play environment appropriate for patients and families.
  • Ensures that the department’s resources, playrooms, and activity areas are maintained appropriately and cleaned per hospital guidelines, adhering to MoPH standards.
  • Ensures that infection control procedures are adhered to at all times and provides assistance to the Department in this regard. This would include wiping down table surfaces, toy washing, and acting as liaison with Housekeeping and Infection Control staff.

Provides teaching for and assists with potentially stressful patient and family health care events:

  • Utilizes knowledge of child development (neonate to adolescent) and family-centered care to design and implement child life interventions including age appropriate preparation and education and procedural support.
  • Assesses patient and family knowledge level, misconceptions, previous experience, and unique social, cultural and learning needs.
  • Assesses patient and family responses to stress.
  • Plans and implements teaching and support accordingly.
  • Provides psychological preparation, incorporating key elements of developmentally appropriate information, encouragement of emotional expression, and the formation of a trusting relationship.
  • Uses accurate and developmentally appropriate teaching aids and techniques.
  • Recognizes verbal and non-verbal cues and adapts accordingly.
  • Uses minimally threatening, developmentally supportive language.
  • Describes sensory information, sequence, timing and duration of events.
  • Facilitates planning, rehearsal, and implementation of coping strategies.

  • Leads or participates in priority initiatives and education.

  • Develops and assists in facilitation of department-wide professional development activities including: journal clubs, clinical supervision groups, and educational sessions.

Preferred: Master’s Degree or post graduate diploma in Child Life, Child Development, or related field

Experience: 

  • 5+ years clinical experience as Child Life Specialist or Hospital/Health Play Specialist in pediatric settings
  • Strong clinical expertise across the competencies of the Child Life field
  • Experience in Child Life/Hospital Play department leadership/supervisory roles/responsibilities.

Certification and Licensure:

JOB SUMMARY 

The Clinical Nurse is responsible for competently providing safe and effective care to patients and families,. The Clinical Nurse assesses care needs, plans, and implements and evaluates programs of care. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for ensuring that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard.

The Clinical Nurse participates in the supervision and teaching of more junior and new members of staff within the unit. The Clinical Nurse is professionally accountable to the Chief Nursing Officer.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

·       Provides total individualized patient care and assumes accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care, discharge planning for each patient and assessing for current and potential problems.

·       Accurately, concisely and appropriately documents care, interventions and outcomes.

·       Contributes to the achievement of clinical quality outcome indicators and patient satisfaction by demonstration of extraordinary service.

·       Utilizes a professional practice framework and evidence based care, identifies improvement areas while minimizing risks creating care that is optimal for our patients and families.

·       Promotes a safe environment and safe patient care by embracing a safety culture and identifying areas of risk.

·       Educates the patient/family and other members of the health care team.

·       Contributes to excellence in outcomes, a positive patient experience and a healthy professional environment.

·       Contributes effective use of resources.

·       Leads and/or contributes to service based Performance Improvement activities and organizational committees as assigned.

·       Develops and sustains (maintains) own knowledge, clinical skills (mandatory training), professional (portfolio or profile) awareness and provides documented evidence of performance and maintenance of skills consistent with position.

·       Treats colleagues, patients, and visitors with dignity and respect at all times and promotes and maintains effective communication and teamwork.

·       Maintains confidentiality at all times.

·       Identifies and alerts members of the medical team to changes in medical status of the patient.

·       Works in collaboration with Case Management to achieve goals.

·       Participates in new staff/student orientation, assists in maintaining a suitable learning environment and acts as a preceptor/mentor in the supervision and teaching of new staff/students to develop their competence.

·       Maintains a professional demeanor and upholds the organizational values at all times.

·       Acts as a role model for junior staff and assists in promoting and sharing knowledge via mentorship/preceptorship programs in line with relevant research and evidence based practice.

·       Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.

·       Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – SELECTION CRITERIA

ESSENTIAL

PREFERRED

Education

·       Bachelor Degree in Nursing (4 years)

or

·       Diploma in Nursing (3 years after post high school)

and

·       Registered Nurse

Post graduate certificate in specialty if applicable in country of origin

Experience

·       2+ years of recent clinical nursing experience within

the relevant specialty from a highly esteemed healthcare institution

·       No minimum experience requirement for University

of Calgary Qatar Graduates only

 

 

Certification and Licensure

Valid professional

Nursing license in country of origin

The Executive Assistant provides administrative support in a high level executive management environment, assisting the Chief.  The Executive Assistant is a key liaison position providing a range of communications services with Senior Management and external stakeholders. This level of organisational support involves facilitating positive working relationships in the delivery of these important administrative tasks and services.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNT ABILITIES

  • Works autonomously in coordinating, managing and prioritising the day-to-day administrative activities
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for the Office, coordinates and screens incoming and outgoing communications, takes action as appropriate, summaries, prepares background documents and responses as necessary
  • Gains a general working knowledge of all departments within the organisation in order to handle inquiries or redirect them to the appropriate department
  • Liaises with patients, visitors, staff, physicians as well as other Sidra departments and stakeholders including various committees, Government Offices, and other groups both internal and external
  • Maintains contacts database of appropriate agencies to facilitate the exchange of Information
  • Displays a high level of diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality, and ensures compliance with administrative policies and procedures
  • Drafts and/or prepares a full range of materials such as emails, memorandums, reports, presentations, correspondence and meeting materials
  • Manages busy and complex calendars, anticipating the need for and scheduling appointments
  • Provides Executive support for a wide range of high level meetings including provision of supporting papers and other meeting materials
  • Creates/distributes agendas, and records, transcribes and distributes minutes for a wide range of high level meetings
  • Assists with  background research and analysis on specific issues as required, producing documents, briefing papers, reports and presentations
  • Maintains electronic records of all correspondence, reports and related materials
  • Coordinates complex travel arrangements and itineraries for staff and visiting VIP guests and groups
  • Receives and hosts visiting VIP guests and groups
  • Provides assistance in the understanding and interpretation of Sidra policies, procedures and standards
  • Assists in the coordination of special projects as appropriate
