Senior Assurance Researcher

The SEI’s Formal Verification of Cyber-physical Systems (FV-CPS) initiative creates and applies state-of-the-art techniques, theories, tools, and prototypes to improve the state of the practice for the development of predictably trustworthy cyber-physical systems that can operate in changing and uncertain conditions. We are looking for a driven researcher to join a team of experienced engineers and researchers to develop solutions for assurance of autonomous cyber-physical systems.

Duties:

  • Developing solutions for assurance of autonomous systems bridging the gap between the state of the art and the state of the practice
  • Conducting research to advance the state of the art in assurance of autonomous systems
  • Developing project proposals and leading project execution
  • Contributing to diverse teams composed of colleagues, customers, and others, to deliver solutions

Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science or related discipline with ten (10) years of experience; OR MS in the same fields with eight (8) years of experience; OR PhD in the same fields with five (5) years of experience
  • Movement between buildings within the SEI and CMU community required, though we are working from home during the pandemic
  • Willingness to travel to various locations to support the SEI’s overall mission. This includes sponsor sites, conferences, and offsite meetings on occasion. Moderate Travel (15%)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of formal verification
  • Understanding of autonomous and cyber-physical systems principles
  • Strong research and writing skills

The Summer College Preview Program in Qatar is currently searching for an instructor to teach English for this coming summer. Duties and Responsibilities:

Student support (60%)

Provide individual and small group tutoring to students in the ARC.

Offer Supplemental Instruction and recitation sessions as needed.

Assists students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills.

Faculty/staff support (20%)

Works closely with relevant course instructors and other ARC staff (however, is expected to show initiative and independence in developing support programs).

Meets regularly with course instructors and may assist with reviewing course materials

Develops handouts and delivers workshops.

Class attendance and proctoring (10%)

Director of Experiential Learning

We are seeking applicants for the position of the Director of Experiential Learning in our Qatar Campus. This position reports to the Senior Associate Dean, Education.

This individual will provide oversight for the design, implementation, growth, and assessment of a suite of experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate students. The Director of Experiential Learning will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean, Education to develop and execute a comprehensive vision and strategy for experiential learning that aligns with the university’s mission and curricular requirements.

Core Responsibilities include;

1. Build relationships with companies, organizations, and research sites in the community in order to increase engagement opportunities for our undergraduate students
2. Identify and facilitate potential projects with external partners for university courses requiring experiential learning
3. Collaborate with faculty and staff in the creation of new course-embedded, experiential learning offerings
4. Liaise with university-level experiential learning programs; support participation by Qatar students
5. Collaborate with campus partners, including Career Development, the Associate Dean for Government and Corporate Affairs, and Undergraduate Research Committee as appropriate
6. Partner with students in the creation and selection of meaningful opportunities that align with their goals and interests
7. Mentor and support students engaged in course-embedded experiential learning opportunities
8. Host events and design workshops for students to explore and reflect on the connections they have made or would like to make between their curricular and co-curricular experiences
9. Foster engagement and interest in experiential learning among faculty, staff and students
10. Benchmark best experiential learning practices and programming
11. Identify metrics that can be used to assess the student experience with experiential learning
12. Manage external and internal relationships to facilitate or expand opportunities for interdisciplinary programs; external collaborations/partnerships and education outreach. Review current and emerging academic trends and make recommendations on enhancements to curriculum.
13. Work with the Senior Associate Dean, Education to develop and execute a comprehensive vision and strategy for experiential learning that aligns with the campus’s mission and curricular requirements.

You must demonstrate:
1. Adaptability and openness to change as the department and organization evolves
2. Ability to work well with others and/or as part of a team
3. Ability to work with sensitive information, maintain confidentiality and use discretion
4. Ability to pay close attention to detail; keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records
5. Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and with frequent interruptions

Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree in higher education, business, technical field, or related field is preferred.
2. Minimum of five years of regional experience working in corporate relations, project management, community partnerships, student leadership development, experiential learning, career advising, or academic development, with increasing levels of responsibility.
3. Knowledge of scientific and technical fields covered in the CMUQ curriculum will be important.
