Al Araby Qatar Job Description

Scheduling Manager

Purpose:

This is a key role which ensures that Alaraby TV’s programmes grid is built efficiently and follows the channel’s editorial and commercial strategy.

The Scheduling Manager will require regular liaison with the Channel Manager, Acquisitions, Programmes, Creative, Presentation, Transmission and Sales.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To manage the vision for the mid & long-term programming making the most of available resources
  • Work closely with the Director of News & Programs to ensure the application of channel strategy and in order to meet the channel objectives as well as ensure the best solutions to deliver a clear brand position
  • Manage presentation scheduling team in order to build proper presentation schedules matching the channel’s policies and strategy
  • Manage presentation scheduling team regarding issues in the schedule, late changes and others
  • Work closely with creative and marketing & sales teams to define and apply promotion strategy and to ensure it matches the programme strategy. Provide with schedule insights and opportunities for strategic promotion
  • Work closely with the sales team in order to allocate accurate sales air time
  • Liaise with relevant departments such as acquisition and programmes teams for forward planning as well as updates and changes to ensure accurate information is entered into the system
  • To oversee and resolve cross channel scheduling strategies. To coordinate the flow of information across and between different services to ensure that schedules across all services are accurate and that plans to share themes and avoid duplication/clashes are taken.
  • Update and maintain the program asset database with current contract information, run availability and scheduling parameters.
  • Provide broadcast air date reports to acquired programming distributors on a monthly basis

Skills

Key Skills and Attributes:

  • Experience in scheduling. Preferably in channels with Middle Eastern and North African audiences
  • Familiar with current trends in Presentation, Promotions, Media Planning
  • Pro-active and able to identify and apply decisions
  • Demonstrate ability to be flexible and work well under pressure
  • Able to implement changes and forward-thinking
  • Able to find innovative and creative solutions for challenges
  • Knowledge of the Middle East television Landscape and a genuine interest in the TV industry
  • Knowledge of OFCOM regulations is a plus
  • Arabic speaker is desirable

Qualifications and Experience:

  • More than 8 years of experience in relevant field
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Al Araby Qatar Job Description

The Satellite Desk Coordinator is responsible for booking production and transmission, coordinating, monitoring and managing successful delivery for scheduled production and transmission services.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake monitoring Control of the channel off air and escalation process with DTH providers.
  • Effectively receive and record Feeds/transmissions via Satellite, Fibre and cellular devises such as TVU making sure the quality is up to Alaraby TV standards.
  • Booking crews, satellite feeds, and circuits, allocating the much-needed resources in the best-known way to serve the editorial needs; leaving minimum chances for mistakes or risk and working to tight deadlines and strict budgets.
  • Minimize troubleshooting time to the minimum to avoid any failure or delay.
  • Identify faults and take immediate preventative action to restore traffic.
  • Reporting clearly in the booking system all technical or operational issues observed during transmissions.
  • Escalating technical issues to relevant support unit as well as to external providers
  • Setting up the IPDs and steerable antennas to the required satellites.
  • Coordinate effectively with operators in the field to support remote operations via satellite, fibre, and IP networks.
  • Ensuring successful delivery by monitoring and managing a time table for scheduled transmissions and resolving any troubleshoot if any crisis occurs to the service.
  • Working alongside with the Planning and Assignment team to prepare the needed logistic support for upcoming events.

Skills:

  • Fluent English speaker and able to communicate effectively verbally & in writing.
  • Arabic speaker is preferable but not essential.
  • Comprehensive, and detailed, understanding of a live 24-hour broadcast environment.
  • Good understanding of satellite and IP based communication technology, broadcasting and Video Compression standards.
  • Good to have knowledge on dealing with local market rates for satellite and crew booking
  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve and multi-task.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a live news environment.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • 2 years or more experience in a relevant field is preferred
